Lo trovo molto interessante, innanzitutto perchè viene fuori l'uomo Gavito, quello che si indigna davanti a chi tenta di denigrare il suo lavoro, e poi perchè dà una bella lezione a tutti noi che ci facciamo mille pippe mentali su cosa sia davvero il tango e siamo pronti a sputare sentenze su stili tangheri, ballerini e spettacoli...
Ho provato a mettere x iscritto le sue parole (in fondo trovate la versione in italiano)...

In 1996 Valorie Hart and Alberto Paz were asked by Carlos Gavito to organize his promotional tour across California. This came after Forever Tango had left San Francisco, and right after derogatory commentaries about Gavito had been posted on a notorious tango list on the Internet by some pseudo intellectuals from the Bay Area.

What says Portasa, what say Borges, as tango dancers, I don’t care, I don’t care, not that bit, and I will never read Borges for tango, never.

I don’t know much about what they know or they knew about tango, I don’t know, but I don’t care.

Nel 1996 Carlos Gavito chiese a Valorie Hart ed Alberto Paz di organizzare il suo tour promozionale in California. Questo avvenne dopo che Forever Tango aveva lasciato San Francisco, e proprio dopo che dei commenti denigratori su Gavito erano stati pubblicati su Internet in un famoso sito di tango da pseudo intellettuali della Bay Area.

Non molto tempo fa ho letto su Internet che qualcuno sa qualcosa riguardo qualcuno qui nella Bay Area, dicendo, quello che so io, che altri dicono, perchè la storia del tango, perchè, perchè...Io so perchè il tango....bla bla bla....
Ascoltate ragazzi. Io sono un milonghero ed un ballerino. Io ballo ed insegno tango. Non sono uno storico, non sono uno psicologo, uno psichiatra....Io insegno tango e ballo tango. Voi gente, se pensate che, siccome noi insegnamo il tango e balliamo il tango, dobbiamo anche darvi lezioni di psicologia, filosofia e storia...vi sbagliate! Noi insegniamo solo tango. Di quello che dice Portasa, di quello che dice Borges, come ballerino di tango, non m’interessa, nemmeno un pò, e non leggerò mai Borges per il tango, mai.
Potrei leggere Carriego, De la Pua, ma no, mai, Borges o Portasa.
Io non so molto riguardo a quello che sanno o che sapevano riguardo al tango, non lo so, ma non m’interessa!
So una cosa sola: non hanno mai ballato tango, non sono mai andati a una milonga. Quindi non m’interessa. Mi interesso a persone che sono state a una milonga, che hanno ballato lì. Questa è gente che ascolto, non loro.
E comunque il tango è semplice. Io ho un tango qui, è un piccolo brano, se vuoi farlo partire per me (rivolto a chi mette la musica)...
E questo è il Tango. Questo è Tango, il tango vero."
